Thank you for your undated letter about the re-establishment of Hong Kong University.

I had already received a copy of Gilbert's letter to you of the 11th August on the subject, and had come to the conclusion that there was nothing for it but to acquiesce in the decision to shelve the project until circumstances are more favourable. If, however, you can at the same time secure Gilbert's assent to the three propositions put forward in your third paragraph, so much the better. We are very willing to be associated with this approach, and sincerely hope that it will succeed.
